VILLAGE OF HUNTLEY: Solicitor Regulations

Local gov stock 01

Village of Huntley issued the following announcement on May 1.

As the weather warms and the snow melts, we will see more people out in our community – including solicitors. The Village of Huntley would like to remind potential solicitors and residents of the regulations and restrictions on solicitor activities.

Village of Huntley local ordinance requires a permit be obtained for any canvasser, peddler, solicitor or itinerant merchant. Permits are not required for public entities and/or religious organizations. Each solicitor must complete the application process at the Huntley Police Department. If a solicitor permit is issued, it must be carried by the solicitor and made available for inspection when engaging in covered activities. Permits are issued to individual solicitors, not to the company, and are not transferable. If a company has multiple individuals who will be conducting soliciting activities here, each individual must complete the application process at the Huntley Police Department.

Once permitted, the solicitor must adhere to certain restrictions when engaging in solicitor activities. All solicitors are prohibited from soliciting prior to 9 am and after 9 pm. Soliciting is not allowed at any time on Sundays or on national holidays. Additionally, solicitors are not to enter the property of any premise in the Village that has a sign stating NO SOLICITORS INVITED. Residents who would like to avoid solicitor visits are encouraged to display such a sign on their property.

Failure to obtain a permit and/or any violations of the ordinance can result in fines up to $500 for each offense. Residents who believe a violation has occurred are encouraged to call the police non-emergency number at 847-515-5311 while the subject is in the area so an officer can be dispatched to investigate.
