McHenry County issued the following announcement on Aug. 8.
McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center (MCAC) will participate in the 5th annual Clear the Shelters Day on Saturday, August 17th. Adoption fees for all adoptable cats and dogs over 6 months of age will be waived during the event, which is scheduled from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at 100 N Virginia Street in Crystal Lake. The adoption fee for available puppies and kittens will also be reduced.
“Finding good homes for all of our animals is always our mission, but this special day gives us the opportunity to highlight our pets, who are so deserving of love. Not only is the adoption fee waived, but adopted pets go to their new home already spayed or neutered, micro chipped, treated for parasites, fleas and ticks and vaccinated with age appropriate vaccines, including the rabies shot.” said Maryellen Howell, Manager of McHenry County Animal Control & Adoption Center.
MCAC joins over 1,200 shelters across the country for this event. In 2018, MCAC found homes for all but two animals. Across the country, Clear the Shelters has helped 256,688 pets find forever homes since it began in 2015.
