Cost of college went up for all students at the First Institute Inc

Tuition and fees rose 6.5 percent for 2018-19 at the First Institute Inc, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Illinois students paid $16,375 to attend the private for-profit school this year – $1,000 more than the $15,375 charged for 2017-18.

Data shows 72 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 180 students received grants or scholarships totaling $622,588 and 184 students took out student loans totaling more than $1 million.

Including all undergraduates (284), 249 students used grants or scholarships totaling $897,523, and 254 students took out $1.4 million in federal student loans.
