Columbia College Senior Regional Director Jeannie Simmons recently appointed Dr. Shena Laymon-Frazier as program coordinator of the college’s location at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay. In her role, Frazier is tasked with cultivating the location’s presence in the community while also overseeing its day-to-day operations, including class scheduling and student and faculty recruitment.

“Shena is a valued asset to the NSB Kings Bay location as its new program coordinator and has increased the visibility of the location both on and off the base,” said Simmons. “She has worked diligently to understand her role and has worked to upgrade the location with her previous experience as an adjunct instructor and academic advisor. Under Shena’s leadership, the NSB-Kings Bay location outlook is very bright.”

Frazier has worked in higher education for more than 13 years, beginning with at the College of Charleston in 2008. Two years later, she started work as a natural and clinical sciences laboratory manager at Florida State College-Jacksonville. Frazier concluded her tenure at the college as a grants program facilitator for three years.

In 2018, Frazier began her work with Columbia College as an adjunct professor in biology at both the NSB Kings Bay and Jacksonville locations.

“Joining the Columbia College family has been extremely rewarding,” said Frazier. “Not only do we have excellent staff and faculty at CC-NSB Kings Bay, but we also have a great group of students. I have enjoyed getting to know our students and being able to talk and learn about their aspirations and what they hope to learn. I look forward to seeing our faculty and staff helping them grow each day.”

Frazier earned a Doctor of Public Health in Epidemiology degree from Capella University in 2018. Additionally, she holds a master’s degree in health science and public health from Trident University International, as well as a bachelor’s degree in biology from Charleston Southern University.

Frazier and her husband, Vance, reside in Kingsland, Georgia. Vance is currently an active-duty submariner in the U.S. Navy. The couple has three children, Maia, Mason and Myles.
