Columbia College issued the following announcement on Jan. 6
Due to rapidly rising cases of the COVID-19 Omicron variant and out of an abundance of caution, the college will begin its Spring Semester this Monday, January 10, under a partially virtual learning and working environment. This impacts both the traditional Day Program in Columbia and the college’s 39 locations around the country and is in effect through Friday, January 28. The college’s COVID-19 Taskforce will continue to monitor the situation daily. Any updates in policy will be communicated as soon as decisions are made.
Classes will be held virtually at all locations, with the exception of classes with labs, clinical experiences, student teaching or internships. These classes will continue in-seat and students are required to attend in person. Student-athletes and residential students in classes with in-seat requirements are required to return to residence halls. Limiting the number of people on campus to those who must be physically present will mitigate risk.
“Making this transition allows our students to begin the semester as safely as possible while working to reduce the risk of exposure and transmission of COVID-19,” said Dr. David Russell, president of Columbia College. “We continue to strongly encourage all faculty, staff and students to become fully vaccinated as this has proven to be the best tool in fighting the virus.”
