Members of the Huntley High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) were recognized recently by the Board of Education for their victory at the state level, sending them to the national competition.

During a June 16 Huntley Community School District Board of Education meeting streamed on YouTube, the board learned of the accomplishments of the chapter which include all 21 members competing in the state competition and eight members advancing to nationals in Chicago, according to Page Schaschwary, a business teacher and FBLA advisor at the school.

“Nationals is actually a misnomer because students from around the world compete in Chicago, and it's an amazing four-day experience in the city,” Schaschwary said.

During the 2021-2022 FBLA competition season, chapter members competed via Zoom from their homes, as well as on school campuses and at other locations, Schaschwary said.

Several of the students attended the meeting and shared their thoughts on the competition year, as well as their future.

According to the meeting agenda, the following students were recognized during the meeting:

  • Aryaan Khalil, first place, Accounting II
  • Jon Garcia and Pari Shah, third place in Hospitality and Event Planning
  • Mark Sobolewski, third place, Computer Applications Competencies
  • Alex Lauinger, Yehan Subasinghe and Pranav Vangari, fourth place, Coding and Programming.
