Nippersink Middle School Principal Scott Whipple recently recognized two teacher teams for their efforts in guiding the school.

During the Oct. 26 Nippersink School District 2 board of education meeting, the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) team was honored for helping to improve student behavior and their social emotional learning experience while the Building Leadership team was commended for assisting with the development and implementation of an effective school improvement plan.

“So I brought two teams that are teacher leaders that have been instrumental in shaping some of the things that we've been doing at the middle school,” Whipple said. “And I am very proud to introduce you to these lovely people because they've been doing a lot of work over the summer and continue to shape where we go at Nippersink.”

The PBIS team focused on laying out basic expectations all students should follow while the leadership team is putting its efforts into three specific goals for the 2022-23 school year. These goals are to boost student growth and achievement, build up the guaranteed viable curriculum and decrease office and discipline referrals. They also created a purpose statement which was “Connect Our School Vision to Daily Practice providing structure for growth, promoting collaboration and developing a culture of learning.”

The Building Leadership team faced some changes in personnel and organization over the past year and now functions as an overview panel analyzing school-wide data and other inputs.
