Republican candidate Jerry Evans for the 11th Congressional District celebrated a major milestone in his campaign as he announced that his team successfully submitted nearly double the required number of petitions to secure a spot on the March ballot. He acknowledged the dedication of his volunteers, emphasizing the significant contribution from grassroots organizers across the district.

“Today was a great day in Springfield. Our campaign turned in nearly double the amount of petitions required to get on the March ballot!” Evans said on Facebook.

“Thank you to all volunteers for their tireless work and long hours supporting our mission. Over half of all petitions gathered were from grassroots organizers around the district and for that I say thank you. I am humbled by the outpouring of support from the district and we look forward to winning this race together!”

The broader election season in Illinois kicked off on Sept. 5, with candidates actively collecting signatures for the March 19 primary ballot. The State of Illinois has set a deadline for candidate petitions to be submitted to the County Clerk between Monday, Nov. 27 at 8 am and the final day for submissions, which is Monday, Dec. 4, at 5 pm. Petitions can be delivered either in person or through mail, according to the 2024 Candidates Guide released by Illinois State Board of Elections.

Alongside local political engagements, larger political events are also scheduled during this period. In addition to local contests, the March 19 primary will see voters in the state selecting presidential nominees for both Democratic and Republican parties. Delegates for parties’ conventions scheduled for August will also be elected during the primary, according to WTTW.

Evans’ successful petition submission positions him well as he progresses in the race for the 11th Congressional District seat.

The 11th Congressional District encompasses most of McHenry and Kane Counties and parts of Boone, Lake, DeKalb, DuPage, Cook and Will Counties. It is currently represented by U.S. Rep. Bill Foster (D-IL).
