Senator Craig Wilcox recently co-hosted an IPASS on Demand event in McHenry with State Representative Steve Reick. The initiative aims to help motorists transition to a new sticker system as the Illinois Tollway phases out plastic IPASS transponders. Wilcox extended gratitude to the Illinois Tollway’s mobile team for their efficient customer service.

In other news, Senate Republicans have renewed calls for the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) to comply with a federal executive order banning biological males from participating in women’s sports. Senator Wilcox criticized the IHSA’s policy, stating, “Policies protecting same-sex sports and locker room usage should not be up for debate.” Discontented with the IHSA’s response, Senate Republicans have escalated the matter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, seeking guidance on enforcing the executive order.

Additionally, Senate Bill 42, proposed by Senate Democrats, has drawn criticism for potentially compromising public safety. The bill removes the requirement for cannabis to be stored in an odor-proof container and restricts law enforcement from using the smell of cannabis as grounds for vehicle searches. Wilcox argues the bill “handcuffs law enforcement and undermines their ability to identify impaired drivers.”

The House of Representatives has progressed House Bill 1237, seeking to ban Native-themed mascots and logos in schools unless they receive tribal approval. Wilcox opposes the bill, arguing it diverts resources from more pressing educational needs.

Finally, the Illinois Senate has unanimously passed Senate Bill 1288, aimed at enhancing food safety for individuals with celiac disease. The bill mandates training for food handlers on celiac disease symptoms, gluten-free food handling, and allergen awareness, including the safe handling of sesame.
