State Senator Craig Wilcox has announced that over $2.67 million in state grants will be distributed to aid in revitalizing the main streets and downtowns within the 32nd Senate District. The funds are part of a program run by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO). The Cities of McHenry and Woodstock, along with the Village of Lake Villa, are among 25 recipients of these grants across the state.
“These projects will bring temporary jobs and permanent improvements to key corridors in the 32nd Senate District," Wilcox stated. He expressed that the initiative is expected to stimulate economic growth and create new job opportunities within the area.
The City of Woodstock is set to receive a “Research in Illinois to Spur Economic Recovery” (RISE) grant. With these funds, Woodstock aims to accelerate its economic recovery by supporting projects such as historic building preservation and infrastructure development. The city has been allocated $1,047,750 for renovating sections of the Opera House and installing interactive kiosks on the Historic Woodstock Square.
The City of McHenry will benefit from a “Rebuild Illinois Downtowns and Main Streets” (RDMS) grant amounting to $771,263. This funding will be used to rebuild Riverside Drive in the city’s downtown area to foster improved infrastructure and economic stimulation.
Similarly, the Village of Lake Villa is awarded an RDMS grant of $855,013 for its "Station One" project. This initiative will transform a vacant fire station into a mixed-use development, combining commercial, residential, civic, and public spaces.
“These areas have great potential to be economic and cultural engines in the 32nd District, and I look forward to seeing these areas thrive once the projects are complete,” added Wilcox.
