Illinois Senators have returned to Springfield after a two-week break to begin the final weeks of their legislative session. They will be addressing bills passed by the House and those pending in the Senate. Key tasks include passing the Fiscal Year 2026 state budget before the session ends on May 31.

Governor Pritzker's proposed budget of over $53 billion has raised concerns due to a projected deficit. "I will continue to call for fiscal responsibility that puts hardworking Illinois families first," said Senator Craig Wilcox, advocating for over $1 billion in spending cuts related to programs for non-citizens.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is expected to visit Springfield, seeking additional state funding for the city. Senator Wilcox criticized Johnson's move, calling it "a political distraction from the real issues facing his city."

State legislation to ease regulations for disabled individuals, supported by Wilcox, recently passed the Senate. Senate Bill 1256 aims to reduce the frequency of required medical certification for disability plates and parking decals to once every five years.

As planting season kicks off, Illinois drivers are advised to be cautious on roads shared with farmers’ equipment. The American Farm Bureau Federation has issued guidelines to ensure road safety during this period.

Senator Wilcox is organizing several summer and fall outreach events, starting with an ICASH Unclaimed Property Event in Fox Lake on June 26.

Wilcox also congratulated 272 high school students from his district who were named Illinois State Scholars, acknowledging their academic achievements.

Additionally, over $2.67 million in state grants will aid in revitalizing downtown areas in the 32nd Senate District. Woodstock, McHenry, and Lake Villa are among the recipients, with projects aimed at stimulating economic growth and infrastructure improvement.

Local schools in the 32nd Senate District have received over $30,000 in state-sponsored library grants, intended for educational resources and technological support.
