Legislation addressing a loophole in the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act (USERA) has passed unanimously in the Illinois Senate. The bill, House Bill 1362, is now awaiting the Governor's approval. State Senator Craig Wilcox (R-McHenry) served as the Chief Senate Sponsor of this legislation.

Wilcox explained that "military personnel engaged in military service, including training events, National Guard work, or drill weekends, are guaranteed through the USERA not to receive a reduction in pay or benefits from their normal jobs due to their military service." He noted that some individuals working shifts crossing over midnight were experiencing pay disparities. "HB 1362 adds clarifying language to the Act to remedy the problem," he added.

The Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission initiated this bill. It had previously passed unanimously in the House of Representatives in April and will soon be sent to the Governor.
