Maddie Santeler, a student from Crystal Lake, Illinois, is completing her student teaching assignment at Eagle Elementary School in the Palmyra/Eagle school district as part of her studies in Elementary Education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She will serve in this role through January 2026.

Santeler is one of 179 UW-Whitewater students placed in regional school districts beginning in August for their final semester before earning their degree and teaching license. The university has partnered with 223 cooperating teachers across 175 schools in 117 districts for the current semester.

Student teachers support cooperating teachers with lesson planning, instruction, and assessment. This fall, 42 UW-Whitewater teacher candidates were hired as student teaching interns under the Department of Public Instruction's Wisconsin Improvement Program (WIP). These interns are licensed by DPI to teach up to half of each day independently and receive a stipend for their work.

UW-Whitewater licenses more teachers than any other institution in Wisconsin. The university was founded in 1868 with a mission to educate teachers. More information about its College of Education and Professional Studies can be found at uww.edu/coeps.
