FOIA Request to Algonquin Police Department regarding active employee roster on November 13, 2025.
The McHenry Times has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Algonquin Police Department seeking access to records that detail the current employees within the department. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and specifically asks for any roster, directory, staffing list, payroll record, or personnel summary that identifies all current police department employees.
The requested information includes each employee's name, job title or rank, sex or gender (if available in existing records), date of hire or appointment, and age or year of birth (only if included in existing public-facing records). The request also specifies that if multiple versions of such rosters exist—such as HR roster, payroll roster, sworn-officer roster, and civilian-staff roster—the most recent version of each should be provided.
The McHenry Times emphasized its role in gathering and reporting news to the public as part of its commitment to holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency. As such, they have requested a fee waiver based on their status as a media organization. Additionally, the requestor is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, which aids media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through FOIA requests.
We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
