Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) records show that 61 percent of Alden-Hebron High School's 2015 graduating class enrolled in college within 12 months of graduation.
The 2015 state average for students in public schools was 70 percent.
For AHHS, its college enrollment rate marks a decline since 2014, when 63.0 percent of its graduates chose post-secondary education.
Among high schools in McHenry, the class of 2015 college readiness rates at Prairie Ridge High School (71.8 percent), Cary-Grove Community High School (71.4 percent), Crystal Lake South High School (62.2 percent), Crystal Lake Central High School (59.5 percent) and Woodstock North High School (43.6 percent) were all higher than at AHHS. Harvard High School (26.8 percent) was lower.
The data, collected by the National Student Clearinghouse, includes two and four year colleges.
Enrollment at AHHS in 2015 was 124. 33 (26.61 percent) were seniors.
Also according to ISBE, 41.9 percent of AHHS seniors were "college ready" in 2015, versus an average of 46 percent statewide.
All students who score a 21 on the ACT qualify as "college ready."
AHHS students did better on reading (38.7 percent) and English (54.8 percent) and worse on science (35.5) and math (38.7).
Only 25.8 percent of AHHS students were college ready in all four subjects, according to ISBE.
