Huntley Community School District 158 issued the following announcement on May 24.
Huntley 158 families,
This afternoon we became aware of a troubling message sent via social media from a Marlowe student to a small group of students at Marlowe and Heineman Middle Schools. The identity of the student who sent the message is known, and Lake in the Hills Police Department has been in contact with the student, who was not at school today. While the content of the message does not constitute a threat, it is troubling, and out of an abundance of caution we have continued to work with Lake in the Hills Police to ensure the safety of our school.
The student became known to school and law enforcement officials yesterday regarding a non-violent behavioral incident with staff members at the school, and the student subsequently was removed from the school environment.
It appears that the student sent the message in frustration as a result of yesterday’s incident. Our ongoing work with police included the presence of a police officer on campus, who you may have seen during pickup and after school today at Marlowe, and we thank them for their ongoing work to keep our schools safe.
Thank you to all of our families as well for your ongoing support of our safety efforts.
