Huntley Community School District 158 issued the following announcement on May 28.
Heineman Middle School has made a tradition of hosting veterans of the United States Military for visits with 8th grade students over the past several year, during which students learn first-hand about the veterans’ experiences during different eras of military service.
It’s always a powerful experience for students and a personal way for individuals to thank the veterans for their service.
This year, the entire school collaborated to make the experience even more special, providing a special setup for the interviews in the LRC, serving lunch prepared by the foods exploratory class, and giving the veterans a joyous sendoff at the end of the day.
Student John Fiandaca and staff members Mrs. Cantagallo and Mrs. Baran worked to set up the LRC, and Mrs. Curran’s Foods classes prepared, served, and cleaned up the lunch. Mr. Baser made a video to commemorate the visit.
