HUNTLEY COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT 158: Snapchat Post Investigated by Huntley Police, No Threat to School Safety

Police 06

Huntley Community School District 158 issued the following announcement on Sept. 21.

Huntley High School families,

Late Thursday evening we were made aware of an image containing a threatening message directed at the school distributed via Snapchat from the account of an HHS student. The incident was immediately reported to the Huntley Police Department, who promptly began an investigation, which continued into early morning hours.

Police sought to identify the source of the image and the student from whose account the image was sent. Once the student was identified, police visited the student’s residence to conduct a threat assessment.

Based on the investigation conducted by the police, after identifying the student and visiting the residence, they have identified the source of the posting and have determined that there is no threat to school safety. Out of an abundance of caution, an extra police presence will be in place at HHS Friday as a visible reassurance for students and staff. The school day will operate as normal, and the student who posted the threatening image is being kept from the school environment.

We wish to thank the student who reported this image to school administrators. Without this report, we likely would have been unaware of the incident. We encourage all members of the community to continue to partner with us in keeping our schools safe by reporting any potential threats to the school and/or police.

All threats we are made aware of are investigated fully by both the District and police to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We will update families if any additional pertinent information comes to light.

Sincerely,

Marcus Belin

Principal
