Huntley Community School District 158 issued the following announcement on Oct. 18.
David Flood, a motivational speaker whose messages of inclusion and acceptance have been shared with hundreds of thousands of students throughout the country and with tens of millions of viewers online, spoke to students at Heineman Middle School on October 17.
Flood shared his personal experiences and issued three challenges to students:
Stop looking on the outside and look on the inside.
Say “thank you” to two adults in the building for keeping kids safe
From this day forward, no one eats alone.
Flood is involved with a number of charitable and volunteer causes in his home area of Long Island. He also shared some of his experiences as the child of a parent who struggled with addiction, and as the father of a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
