HUNTLEY COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT 158: Marlowe Presents “Carol of the Snow Queen” December 7 & 8

Huntley Community School District 158 issued the following announcement on Dec. 3.

Based on the works of Charles Dickens and Hans Christian Andersen, Carol of the Snow Queen moves the classic English Christmas story north—to Scandinavia, where we find the “hero” of our story, Lady Ebenezer Skrooge. Her friends call her Ebba.

Ebba Skrooge is the first, and only, lady-in-waiting to the recently deceased Queen Marlee in the Scandinavian royal court of Old King Jakob. And now, with Queen Marlee’s death, it is rumored that Old King Jakob will pick Ebba to be the new Queen.

There is just one problem. Ebba is already a queen—a queen-bee, an ice queen, or what is most commonly known as “a mean girl.” She mocks children, the elderly, and her fellow ladies alike, not to mention her sweet sister Gerda, all while coolly running the show in King Jakob’s court.

But tonight on Christmas Eve, Queen Marlee will visit her lady one last time giving her the opportunity to receive three Christmas ghosts, past, present and future, and more importantly, the opportunity to become more than just a “queen bee.” To become a good friend, a loving sister— the chance to melt her frozen heart.

Carol of the Snow Queen, written and directed by Holly Burkhalter, co-directed by Mary Foerster, and produced and costumed by Janet Burkhalter features a cast of nearly 70 middle school students and 12 high school tech crew members.

Shows will be held on December 7 at 7:00 p.m., and December 8 at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. in the District 158 Performing Arts Center located at Huntley High School. Tickets are $5 each, general seating and can be purchased online at https://d158.ticketleap.com or at the door one hour prior to show time.

For more information please contact Janet Burkhalter at jburkhalter@district158.org, or Lorie Woods, Director of Huntley 158 Performing Arts Center at (847) 659-6107.
