Huntley Community School District 158 issued the following announcement on Feb. 8.
Chesak Elementary School was featured in the Northwest Herald for its implementation of the Great Kindness Challenge, a nationwide effort to create a culture of compassion among students.
The Challenge included a number of ways to help students connect with and understand each other, including the Buddy Bench. The Buddy Bench helps students find others to play with during recess. Lessons in compassion were reinforced both within and outside the classroom.
The District’s social-emotional leadership team plans to roll out similar programming at all schools next year.
