HARVARD COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT 50: October Board Recognitions

Honor roll 01

Harvard Community Unit School District 50 issued the following announcement on Oct. 18.

The Harvard CUSD 50 Board of Education recognized student achievement at last night’s public meeting.

Two Harvard High School music students received recognition. The Illinois Music Educator’s Association selected senior Angela Vetter for District 7 Honor Band. Sophomore David Sargent was selected for the Illinois Music Educator’s Association District 7 Honor Choir.

Senior Kayla Austin was WHIW Harvard Community Radio‘s Athlete of the Month for cross country.

Quarterback and defensive back sophomore Jacob Stanley was WHIW Harvard Community Radio‘s Athlete of the Month for football.

The board recognized Harvard High School’s girls golf team for qualifying for sectionals. The team had an outstanding season. They finished the regular season at 10-3-1, the first winning season in school history. They finished second place in the conference, the highest finish in school history. The team finished second place at the regional tournament, also another school record and only the second time the entire team has qualified for sectionals. Sophomores Joelle McMillan and Emma Ackland finished in the top ten in the conference tournament.

The board convenes every month in open, public meetings to discuss district business and hear citizens’ concerns. An agenda is posted publicly in advance of board meetings. The meeting schedule, along with agendas and minutes are available on the board’s web page.
