Crystal Lake Community Consolidated School District 47 recently issued the following announcement.

At the District 47 board meeting on February 19, 2019, the board approved the appointment of Monica Furlong as principal of the Wehde Early Childhood Center effective July 1, 2019. Furlong will replace current director Pam White who will retire at the end of the 2018-19 school year.

Furlong is currently director of special education (PreK-8th grade) for Huntley School District 158. She began her career in District 47 in 2006 where she served in roles as a speech paraprofessional and special education teacher. In 2013, she became an assistant director of special education in Grayslake and has been a director of special education for the past five years. Furlong holds a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University in speech pathology and audiology and master’s degrees in special education (Roosevelt University), literacy (Olivet Nazarene University) and educational leadership (Concordia University). She received her director of special education endorsement from the University of St. Francis. In addition, she is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in curriculum and instruction from Aurora University.

“We look forward to welcoming Mrs. Furlong back to District 47,” said Superintendent Dr. Kathy Hinz. “Her background and leadership in the areas of special education and early childhood will help us continue to build and enhance programming and educational services for our youngest learners.”

“I am excited to have this opportunity to come back to where I first started my career and where I call my home,” said Furlong. “Early childhood education is at the heart and foundation of all student learning and I’m excited to share my passion with District 47.”
