CRYSTAL LAKE COMMUNITY CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT 47: Crystal Lake Elementary Teachers Association Gives Back

Crystal Lake Community Consolidated School District 47 recently issued the following announcement.

Crystal Lake Elementary Teachers Association (CLETA) makes it an annual tradition to raise money for the Crystal Lake Food Pantry to help combat hunger in McHenry County.

This year, through its “jeans” fundraiser in the fall, CLETA raised $4,677. Jeans fundraisers allow D47 teachers to wear jeans to work for a $5 donation to the pantry. In total, over the past five years, CLETA has donated over $27,000 to the pantry.

Bill Eich, president of the Crystal Lake Food Pantry, added, “The food pantry is able to purchase food through the Northern Illinois Food Bank at greatly reduced prices. For each dollar that is donated, we are able to buy $8 worth of food. This year’s donation from CLETA will allow us to purchase $37,416 worth of food to feed our neighbors in need. Thank you so much!”

The CLETA jeans fundraiser will be repeated again in March, with proceeds then going to the Gail Dowdakin Memorial Scholarship fund for children of CLETA members who are pursuing a degree in education.

“Crystal Lake teachers really love contributing to these two fundraisers,” said CLETA president and West 4th grade teacher Nancy Boro. “The food pantry benefits our community and serves the students we work with. The scholarship goes to a CLETA member’s college student who is following in his/her parent’s footsteps.“
