Huntley Community School District 158 issued the following announcement on Sept. 12.

It is with great excitement that the Huntley 158 Performing Arts Center announces the first show for the 2019-2020 season.

Huntley High School’s Thespian Troupe 6147 will present one of Shakespeare’s best-loved comedies, As You Like It, under the direction of Christine DeFrancesco.

Duke Frederick has staged a coup and exiled his brother, but has allowed his young niece Rosalind to stay at court. She falls in love with the noble Orlando at a wrestling match. Duke Frederick then banishes Rosalind, who disguises herself as a man and flees with Celia, Frederick’s daughter, to the Forest of Arden. Orlando, running from his jealous older brother Oliver, heads for the forest, too.

Orlando pins his love poems to Rosalind on the trees. Upon finding them, the disguised Rosalind persuades Orlando to get rid of his lovesickness by attempting to pursue her as if she were Rosalind.

Local shepherdess Phoebe rejects her suitor Silvius and falls in love with the disguised Rosalind. Touchstone, a clown courts Audrey, a country wench. Oliver, having arrived in the forest and patched things up with his brother, falls in love with Celia.

Rosalind reveals her true identity, and all couples are married by the banished Duke, who has also been residing in the forest. News comes that Duke Frederick has joined a monastery and returned the lands and crown to his brother.

Performances will be held in the Huntley 158 Performing Arts Center at Huntley High School on September 19-20 at 7:00 p.m., and September 21 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 each, general seating, and can be purchased online at D158.Ticketleap.com or at the door one hour prior to show time.
