HARVARD COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT 50: Loss of Student Emma O’Connor

Wrongfuldeath

Harvard Community Unit School District 50 issued the following announcement on May 10.

Dear Families and Staff,

It is with heartbreak that I share the news that Harvard High School has lost a vital member of our community. On Thursday, May 7, 2020, sophomore Emma Grace O’Connor passed away.

Our crisis staff is working with Emma’s family and friends to provide support.

For all those grieving, please know that you need not do it alone. Our school psychologists, social workers, and counselors are available to all seeking support. In addition, the Harvard Area Community Health Center and Mercyhealth offer support services.

We wanted all families to be aware of the situation so that you can talk with your child. There is no way to predict how a loss might affect your child, but changes in behavior may be a signal that your child needs assistance. If you feel that your child or family requires support, contact us, and we will do everything we can to help you.

Everyone is encouraged to leave a memory or a message at www.defiorefuneral.com. For further information please call the funeral home at 847-515-8772.

Sincerely,

Principal Carl Hobbs
