HARVARD COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT 50: Class of 2020 Students Earn Seal of Biliteracy

School stock hands

Harvard Community Unit School District 50 issued the following announcement on June 18.

Harvard CUSD 50 recognizes this year’s Seal of Biliteracy recipients:

Leonardo Flores Hernandez

Matilde Ortiz Martinez

Julisa Salinas Martinez

Julyet Mendoza

Earning the Seal of Biliteracy is not an easy task. Students must demonstrate high levels of proficiency in English and another language to be eligible for up to 12 credits at any public Illinois university. Congratulations on this huge accomplishment!

The Seal is a state-supported recognition of scholars that have acquired language for college and career readiness.  Since 2007, Harvard has offered a dual language immersion program. Starting in pre-kindergarten, students learn in both English and Spanish. Two-way immersion is a researched instructional and enrichment approach from which students emerge bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural.
