Harvard Community Unit School District 50 issued the following announcement on July 16.
District administration and staff have been working together on the D50 Return to Learn Plan for weeks. These planning committees will have a draft ready to present the CUSD50 Board of Education on July 30 and then to our community on August 1.
Weekly Return to Learn Updates will be shared to help families understand the elements of the planning process as the details are finalized and will continue until school starts.
Return to Learn Considerations
- The health and safety of our students and staff is our guiding principle.
- We will build our plan based on the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) guidance.
- ISBE's official guidance encourages districts to welcome students to the classroom wearing masks and with social distancing guidelines in place.
- D50 is building a plan for two types of learning:
- a hybrid of two days of in-person with safety precautions and three days of remote learning per week,
- or full remote learning every day.
- Choice for families will be built into the plan. An entirely remote learning option will be offered to any family who feels that is the best choice for their child.
- After the plan is presented to families on August 1, families will be asked for their preference for in-person hybrid model or full remote learning. These requests will be used to create schedules for staff and students.
- Teacher assignments and schedules provided in the spring may be changed due to teachers and / or students opting into full remote learning.
- Unlike the spring, instruction of new material and grading will happen in remote learning. Every student will have a device to connect for distance learning provided by the District that will be essential.
- Access to Wifi will be necessary and can be provided by the District.
- The split for the two cohorts of hybrid learning will be done geographically so families are assured to attend in-person instruction on the same day.
- To minimize potential exposure possibilities, the school day will be held from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
