HARVARD COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT 50: Return to Learn Update

School

Harvard Community Unit School District 50 issued the following announcement on July 27.

D50 Return to Learn Update 2.0

Monday, July 27, 2020

District administration and staff have been working together on the D50 Return to Learn Plan for weeks. These planning committees will have a draft ready to present to the CUSD50 Board of Education on July 30 and then to our community on August 1.

Weekly Return to Learn Updates will be shared to help families understand the elements of the planning process as the details are finalized and will continue until school starts.

Return to Learn Considerations

  • The week of July 27 will be a significant week in District 50's preparation for the 2020-21 Schools Year.
    • On Monday night at 5:00 pm, there will be a Board Work Session where the Return to Learn Plan will be discussed. You can use the Zoom link to listen in.
    • On Thursday, the Board will have a meeting at 7:00 pm to approve the Return to Learn Plan .
    • On Saturday, the approved plan will be released to staff and community once decisions have been made.
  • Thanks for your feedback on our surveys regarding your preference for remote instruction or a hybrid learning model to start the year. The results reflect what a difficult decision this will be. 60% of staff prefer to start remotely and just over half of parents prefer a hybrid approach. That decision will be made this week.
  • There were comments in the parent survey about some people having a lack of WiFi. Please remember that the District can provide a hotspot to any D50 student for use during this school year. Contact Technology at 815-943-4022 to get a hotspot. Your D50 computer and effective WiFi will be just as important as paper and pencil this school year.
  • Whether remote or hybrid, each instructional day will include daily contact with D50 staff.
  • One mask will be provided for each student and each staff member. State guidance requires all staff and students to wear masks at all times while in the school building other than while having breakfast or lunch unless that class has been taken outside and 6 feet of distance can be established between students. More information on how to help your student get used to wearing a mask will be provided this week.

Weekly back-to-learning updates will be shared to help families understand the elements of the planning process as details are finalized and will continue until school begins.

  • There were comments about some people lacking Wi-Fi in the parent survey. Remember that the District can provide any D50 with an access point for use during this school year. Go to Technology at 815-943-4022 to obtain an access point. Your D50 computer and effective Wi-Fi will be as important as paper and pencil this school year.
