At its Jan. 24 meeting, the Woodstock Community Unit School District 200 Board of Education recognized the 44 seniors from the class of 2023 who had achieved Illinois State Scholar status. Illinois State Scholars are identified by a combination of their high school grades and their SAT scores and they generally represent the top 10% of students in the state.
There were 44 students across the district who made this distinction this year, 19 from Woodstock North and 25 from Woodstock High.
“These high-achieving students are selected annually based on their ACT or SAT exam scores and sixth semester class rank,” Superintendent Michael Moan said. “They are recognized for their exceptional academic achievement. They rank in approximately top 10% of all high school students in the state of Illinois. We are very excited to honor them tonight. In addition, we have our high SAT students: student that took the SAT and scored 1300 or higher which again puts them in top company of top 10% nationally of all students to take the SAT. And also we have the ILMEA all-state musicians. We have four musicians who were named all state musicians, among the very best musicians in this entire state.”
The Illinois State Scholars from Woodstock High School are: Jeremiah Anderson, Keaton Andrews, Adeline Arana, Daniel Carbajal Flores, Kin-San Carr, Melany Cervantes, David Gavran, Ingrid Gay, Cassandra Goudreau, Aidan Greenlee, Gabriel Hernandez, Olivia Hughes, Alexis Jesse, Isabella Kozlow, Dante Marasco, Rian Mecklenburg, Emma Meiners, Isabella Meiners, Sophia Meiners, Mason Mendoza, Vince Perez, Jade Schneider, Avery Sternitzky, Dulce Tapia-Ortiz, Alisha Virani.
The Illinois State Scholars from Woodstock North are: Alejandra Almanza, Nii Amoo, Fiona Andrienko, Justin Chase, Teagan DeVaul, Nicholas Dickson, Cholo Ferrolino, Abigail Forester, Johanna Freeman, Gabriella Hagen, Jenna McAleese, Kyle Morey, Sean Pigliacelli, Lorelei Schefke, Tyler Schroeder, Kylie Schulze, Abigail Shirley, Julia VanAcker, Gracie Zankle.
The board also recognized the students who achieved a 1300 or higher score on the SAT, those students are also represented by their All State Scholars designation. And the board recognized the four musicians from the school who received All State Musician designation. These students were Maggie Adams (choir), Brayden Dulin (percussion), Aiden Johnson (choir), Kennedy Treliving (choir). These students were able to perform at the Illinois Music Education Conference in Peoria on the last weekend in January.
The board uploaded a livestream of its public meeting to the district’s YouTube channel.
The board also discussed approving an overnight field trip for Woodstock North High School student council to attend the North Central District of Illinois Student Councils Spring Overnight Extravaganza in Gurnee, Ill.
The board will meet again at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Woodstock High School Learning Research Center on the second floor on 501 West South St.
